Wisdom Meditation: Listening to Your Inner Voice

Accessing Divine Intelligence
Yogananda taught that wisdom comes through stilling the mind in meditation to hear the infallible counsel of the Inner Voice. Padmasambhava revealed that your mind's true nature is 'utterly empty and completely awake.' This meditation guides you to that awakened emptiness where divine wisdom naturally arises.
The Nature of True Wisdom
Wisdom is not accumulated knowledge from outside. It is the power and extent of your inner receptivity that determines how much you can attain of true knowledge. When you quiet the mental chatter, divine intelligence illuminates your consciousness, showing you reality as it truly is.
Preparation (3 minutes)
Sit comfortably with your spine straight. Close your eyes and bring your attention to the space between your eyebrows — your third eye center. Take several deep breaths, and with each exhale, release any mental tension. Visualize a brilliant golden light at your third eye, like a miniature sun illuminating your mind.
Observing the Mind (5 minutes)
Simply watch your thoughts without judgment. Notice how they arise like clouds in the sky — appearing from nowhere, drifting across your awareness, and dissolving back into nothing. You are not your thoughts. You are the vast, clear sky in which thoughts appear and disappear. Don't try to stop thinking. Just observe. Notice the space between thoughts. That space is your true nature — empty and awake.
Releasing Mental Patterns (5 minutes)
As thoughts arise, practice letting them go. Don't follow them into stories. When you notice you've been caught in a thought stream, gently return to observing. It's like watching leaves float by on a river — you don't jump in and swim after them. You simply watch them pass. With each thought you release, your mind becomes clearer, more spacious. The Gold Flame of wisdom grows brighter in this clarity.
Entering the Silence (10 minutes)
Now, retire within. Go deeper than thoughts, deeper than emotions, deeper than sensations. Seek the source of awareness itself. In the silence between breaths, in the gap between thoughts, there is a presence — vast, intelligent, aware. This is your true nature. This is where divine wisdom dwells. Rest here. Don't try to figure anything out. Don't seek answers. Simply be present in this awakened emptiness. If insights arise, notice them gently, but don't grasp at them.
Asking for Guidance (7 minutes)
From this place of inner stillness, if you have a question or need guidance, hold it lightly in your awareness. Don't think about it — just hold the question like a flower you're offering to the divine. Then release it and return to silence. Listen. The answer may come as words, images, feelings, or simply a knowing. It may come now or later today. Trust that divine intelligence is responding. The Inner Voice speaks in the silence.
Illuminating Understanding (5 minutes)
Visualize the golden flame at your third eye expanding, filling your entire head with warm, intelligent light. This light dissolves confusion, doubt, and false beliefs. It illuminates truth. Feel this wisdom-light flowing down into your heart, uniting understanding with love. Silently affirm: 'Divine wisdom illuminates my mind. I see clearly. I understand truly.'
Integration (3 minutes)
Before opening your eyes, set an intention to carry this clarity into your day. When faced with decisions, pause and check in with this inner wisdom. Ask yourself: 'Is this thought based on reality or my fears and assumptions?' Trust the quiet knowing that arises from stillness.
Closing Practice
Take three deep breaths. Feel yourself fully present in your body. Open your eyes slowly. Notice how you see the world with slightly more clarity. This is the Gold Flame of wisdom at work.
Daily Application
Throughout your day, practice these wisdom teachings: Examine your own mind, not others. Before reacting, pause and ask if your response comes from clarity or conditioning. Accept that everything changes — resisting this truth causes pain. Control the present moment — live supremely well now. The more you practice inner listening, the stronger your connection to divine wisdom becomes.
